    About NWFP:

NWFP covers an area of 74,521 sq. km. According to the 1998 census, the total population of N.W.F.P. was approximately 14 million out of whom 52% are males and 48% females. The density of population is 187 per sq. km and the intercensal change of population is of about 30 percent. Geographically the province could be divided into two zones: the northern one extending from the ranges of the Hindukush to the borders of Peshawar basin; and the southern one extending from Peshawar to the Derajat basin.

Health is an important social sector; Economic development and social progress are closely link with the state of health of the population of a country. Health facilities are essential not only to provide clean and disease free atmosphere to live but also to enhance the efficiency and productivity of population. The parameters determining the state of health of a given are and its population rests on availability of clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, Doctors & population, existence of medical units, and maternity facilities etc, to keep people not only free from communicable disease but to make sure quality of life and reduction in mortality rate.

The infrastructure of health therefore covers the establishment of Health Institution ions like hospitals, dispensaries, R.H.C.S, BHUs and staffing theses units with sufficient number of Medical / Para Medical staff. The position of these health services can make significant contribution to Economic Growth.
